Meet Dr. Angela Draughon
Dr. Angela’s decision to become a chiropractor began in junior high with a moment she still remembers clearly. She had always planned to go into veterinary care because she has loved animals for as long as she can remember. Then her mother suffered a significant fall and badly injured her back.
Witnessing the Effects of Natural Chiropractic Care
For Dr. Angela, chiropractic became real through her own family’s experience. At the time, her dad was an assistant flight director for NASA. When the capsules splashed down in the ocean, the crew went into quarantine, and when they came out, there was a splashdown party to celebrate.
Her mother could barely walk and was in severe pain, with surgery already on the schedule. Instead, she decided to try chiropractic care first. “After about two visits she was able to not only go to the party, but she was able to dance.” That before and after moment is what ultimately led Dr. Angela to choose chiropractic as her profession.
Education And Training That Supports Well-Rounded Care
Earning her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Texas Chiropractic College, Dr. Angela then stepped into practice early, learning quickly as responsibilities expanded. Her advanced training includes over 100 additional hours focused on whiplash and auto-related injury care.
Her approach, however, reaches far beyond accident recovery. Dr. Angela also supports people living with scoliosis, helps pregnant women stay comfortable with specialized table adjustments, and uses a blend of techniques, including cold laser, dry needling, and traction, to help people move and feel better every day.
Why Mesquite Was The Right Fit
Dr. Angela grew up in League City, between Houston and Galveston, which felt more rural at the time. She opened the Mesquite location in 1990, choosing a community that was growing and grounded, with a practical, down-to-earth feel. Mesquite made sense for the long term, and she appreciated the direction the area was heading, without the heavier traffic and congestion of other parts of the metroplex.
Hobbies And Home Life
When she’s not in the office, Dr. Angela enjoys life in Rockwall with her husband and their animals. Over the years, she has raised and shown animals, and today she continues that passion through her breeding program at home. She raises miniature silky fainting goats and is proud to have two-time national champions in her herd. More recently, Dr. Angela has started breeding Miniature Highland cattle, which keeps her lifelong love of animals close to home.
